The Hoof Boss is a really nice, fairly quite tool to expedite trimming. There is much less vibration than a regular angle grinder, so my mare is letting me use it! I am getting older, so want to cut my trim time down to save my back. The only thing i do not like is that there are no 40 grit discs available. 40 grit is perfect for trimming as i learned with my angle grinder on a more willing horse. Please offer 40 grit :). Other then that, we love it.
The product is quality all the way. Customer service was excellent. However, it is going to take some time to convince my mini donkeys that the whirring noise from this tool isn't going to eat them. It makes too much noise to make adjustment by the donkeys easy. I'm keeping the tool and will continue to try acclimating them to it.
This tool is a game changer for me! The dry summer months make my horses hooves so hard I can hardly maintain them. I am 54 and just don't have the strength I used to. I have one horse who grows so much sole/heel that I couldn't keep up with traditional tools. The Boss is going to change that! I found it easy to use and the horses accepted the noise and vibration well.
My wife and I have been trimming our (5) horses for 10 yrs. using the traditional tools (nippers and rasp). I'm 73 yrs. old and it was becoming very difficult to hold-up their legs, especially their rear legs. Back before our farrier retired (10 yrs. ago) I remember seeing a tool he had, but never used, similar to the Hoof Boss. I did a search and found the Hoof Boss. We immediately ordered the Basic kit. I watched all of the videos on the website and YouTube. All (5) horses stood still and acted like "no big deal". I also bought a hoof stand. Now I just put their leg on the stand and I can take my time picking-out, paring the frog, if needed, and paring the sole. We all know that during the dry summer horse's soles can be as hard as steel and no matter how sharp my hoof knife, it takes a lot of effort to pare them. I use the nippers if the wall is long, if not, I use the Red disc to trim the wall. The Hoof Boss makes these tasks easy on me and easy on the horse! The Hoof Boss is the best tool to compliment my hoof trimming equipment. Customer service from this company is second-to-none. Some final recommendations: Watch all the videos you can on its use before using it on the horse. Make sure to use the tail band when trimming the back hooves. Above all-don't get in a hurry. You are going to love this tool!!!
Easy to use and fast. Has greatly reduced the amount of time laminitic horse has to stand with foot off the ground for trimming. Horses had no problem with acclimating to the sound of the tool.
